Business Development Director
Job Description

The job entails selling contracts, developing new business and creating strategic partnerships with space & defense companies within the US. The position reports to the CEO/President and founding partners and will be responsible for the overall management of the company's business development and sales effort with the space and defense community. The individual should be able to leverage personal contacts at major space and defense companies to present the capabilities of Escape and negotiate contracts for development and prototyping of advanced modems and base band radio systems.

This sales professional is therefore expected to be both well networked and technologically astute, familiar with radio communications, satellite systems, encoding, modulation and demodulation schemes and the general area of radio communications in order to articulate Escape's unique strengths and capabilities to a technically and commercially sophisticated audience.

The candidate will initiate contacts, identify projects, negotiate contract terms, close sales, negotiate manage the business relationship, inform product development of customer and market needs, inform client of product development progress, maintain client satisfaction and continually identify new opportunities for Escape.

The successful candidate will be able to use his/her knowledge of both radio communications and defense contracting to prospect, cultivate and execute contracts for the design and development of new products needed on various current and planned defense, space and government projects. The individual would need experience of strategic partnerships, developing and managing the ongoing relationship from prospecting through to execution of contracts and acceptance of deliverables, cross selling and on-selling of project work. The goal with these partnerships is to create demand for he services offered by Escape and to fill the order book to facilitate business planning, recruiting and execution in a predictable, smooth, pleasant and organized fashion to the extent possible.

Requirements

Escape requires a senior business development professional who can identify contract design sales opportunities, close sales and develop relationships with space & defense clients in the area of wireless radio communications. The candidate will actively lead the business development function in an effective and energetic manner, thus contributing to the management of the company and the execution of its business plan.

The individual needs to have a strong career track record within the space and defense sector, be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident with the necessary clearances to discuss advanced space and defense projects, and preferably be a resident of the State of California.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key member of the senior team, helping set the company's strategic activities and sales targets with space & defense clients
  • Spearhead and manage multiple business development initiatives, develop clients and strategic partnerships, manage complex contract negotiations, close sales contracts and generate profitable revenues that are consistent with the company’s strategy
  • Build and manage a business development team as the company grows
Skills, Knowledge, Attributes & Relevant Work Experience
  • Understanding of the dynamics of customer acquisition in the space & defense contracting business
  • Solid track record of developing successful relationships, business development, marketing and selling within the space & defense sector
  • Record of closing major accounts on large projects within the industry
  • Previous experience in developing partnership opportunities with an understanding of terms and ROI requirements within the industry
  • Familiarity with wireless, radio and satellite communications projects and development processes
  • Credibility at senior level with decision makers and gatekeepers within the industry based on solid experience and good reputation
  • Unquestionable ethics and professionalism; pleasant in all dealings
  • Network in the industry and knowledge of projects, processes and people pertinent to the selling of large development contracts in wireless communications and radio
  • Understanding of competitive pressures and strict confidentiality requirements of national security or commercially sensitive projects within the sector
Education & Qualifications
  • 7+ years business development, sales or marketing experience with defense contractors in the US
  • A solid understanding of Company's market: products, players, technologies, and a rolodex of contacts in space & defense markets
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Marketing is preferred, with an MBA or JD an asset. An engineering background is helpful

Senior Signal Processing and VHDL Engineer
Job Description

Escape Communications develops signal processing platforms for bandwidth efficient, high capacity, point-to-point radio links. These platforms employ highly flexible architectures, with configurable modulation modes ranging from QPSK to 256 QAM, configurable bit rates ranging up to multi-gigabits per second, and configurable forward error correction. Configurable Mux and Demux functions allow the combining of multiple line interface types and channels within a single radio link. Applications include cellular backhaul, broadband wireless access backhaul, high capacity last mile, private networks and SATCOM.

Escape is seeking a talented and motivated individual to be a key contributor in signal processing development and implementation on our radio modem products. Responsibilities will include algorithm simulation and modeling (primarily C/C++ based), Hardware Description Language (VHDL) development and implementation, as well as functional verification of implementation on target hardware platforms. Applicants must have a proven track record of DSP ASIC and/or FPGA implementations.

Qualifications

The position requires HDL-based digital design experience (VHDL preferred, Verilog OK), solid C/C++ programming skills, and experience implementing digital logic in commercial FPGAs. A strong educational background in digital signal processing theory is also required.

A masters degree in EE or CS is required; applicants with Ph.D. are also welcome.

Preference will be given to applicants with prior relevant experience.

Electronics Design Engineer
Job Description

The products feature state-of-the-art signal processing technology hosted on multilayer printed circuit boards. These PCB designs include large, high pin-count FPGAs and microprocessors, high frequency interconnects, mixed signal components, analog circuits, power converters, as well as RF components and structures.

Escape is seeking a talented and motivated individual to be responsible for PCB design of our product platforms. Responsibilities span the full cycle of PCB design through manufacturing readiness, including digital and analog circuit design, simulation and performance analysis, schematic capture, layout, prototype fabrication and assembly, troubleshooting, and final product verification. Interest in the entire product development process, from concept to hands-on lab verification, is highly valued in this role.

Qualifications

The position requires experience in circuit design and simulation, schematic capture and PCB layout, and hands-on lab troubleshooting. In depth understanding of high-speed design and related EMI/EMC issues will be highly valued. Experience with the Mentor Graphics PADS suite of design tools is a plus.

A bachelors degree in EE is required; applicants with graduate degrees are also welcome.

Analog/Digital Electronics Technician
Job Description

Escape Communications develops products and signal processing platforms for bandwidth efficient, high capacity wireless links. These products find application in cellular backhaul, Broadband Wireless Access backhaul, high capacity last mile, private networks and SATCOM. The products feature state-of-the-art signal processing technology hosted on multilayer printed circuit boards. PCB designs include large, high pin-count FPGAs and microprocessors, high frequency interconnects, mixed signal components, analog circuits, power converters, as well as RF components and structures.

Escape performs prototype development, along with low volume production test and assembly in our Torrance facility. We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to be responsible for prototype test, troubleshooting and rework activities, as well as assembly and test for low volume production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Testing and troubleshooting of electronic circuit boards utilizing test equipment - oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, DMMs, etc…
  • Minor rework of electronic circuit boards, including soldering, wire wrapping, crimping and component population
  • Building and debugging prototype electronic circuits, including design and construction of simple test boxes and fixtures
  • Manage inventory and re-ordering of lab supplies
  • Maintain work-in-progress of electronic assemblies
Qualifications

The position requires experience with complex digital and analog systems in a lab environment. Key qualifications include:

  • Experience testing and troubleshooting of analog/digital circuits
  • Hands-on experience in assembly and rework of PWAs including fine pitch devices
  • Working knowledge of ESD procedures
  • Comfortable with MS Office suite, especially MS Excel
  • Minimum of an AS degree
  • Experience with schematic capture and/or PCB layout tools is a plus

Senior Embedded Software Architect
Job Description

Escape is seeking a talented and motivated individual to be our Senior Software Architect for our radio platform. Responsibilities include the architecture and implementation of an embedded Linux software system to configure and monitor the hardware along with providing several user and machine interfaces. Our platform requires the development of device drivers, SNMP services, web GUI with dynamic updates and uBoot updates all under an embedded platform with constrained CPU and memory resources.

Qualifications

The position requires expertise with Linux embedded systems. The applicant should be able to write or modify existing device drivers from a component datasheet. Also required is the ability to write efficient code in a CPU/memory constrained environment. A key component of our platform is the user interface and the applicant should understand how to develop an efficient and responsive GUI to present the user with real time status and responds to user commands. Familiarity with the PowerPC platform is a pre-requisite; experience with the Freescale PowerQUICC family of processors is strongly preferred. Familiarity with programmable logic (HDL code implemented in FPGAs or CPLDs) would also be beneficial.
